A good fade involves more than just running clippers up the side of your head. It's about understanding how hair grows, how different blade lengths blend together, and where to place those transitions so they look sharp without looking harsh. When you come in for a fade, we start by talking through what you're after. Some guys want a tight, clean fade that sits close to the skin; others prefer a longer, more gradual blend that flows into the top. We'll look at your head shape, hairline, and how your hair naturally sits, then work out the best approach. The actual cutting involves layering different clipper grades—usually starting with a shorter blade at the nape and sides, then blending upward with progressively longer guards. It's precise work. We use clippers that hold their edge and take time with the blending so there's no harsh line, just a smooth transition from short to long. The final step is cleaning up the edges around your ears and neck with a straight razor, which gives you that crisp, finished look.

The difference between a rushed fade and a properly done one shows up within a week or two. A good fade grows out evenly, so you're not left with obvious gaps or lines appearing as your hair gets longer. That's because we've thought about the angle of the blade, the pressure, and how the hair will sit once it's grown back slightly. After you leave, just keep your hair clean and dry it properly if you wash it within a day or two. Most fades hold their shape for three to four weeks before you'll want to tidy up the edges.
